Never About Who We Are
Whether or not you read the Bible, lend me your ear (or your screen) for a sec because there are some mic 🎤 drops up in here... I’ve been diving into days in Israel for the last month or so... (mostly in Exodus, but I’ve got this gorgeous Bible that flashed Ruth at me, so I had to share this pic)... & something keeps striking me about the heroes of the Bible. Take Moses for example... His name is mentioned a 135 times, but none of the stories are ever REALLY about him. If you’re unfamiliar, let me break it down. Moses was supposed to be killed as a newborn slave, but in a crazy move of self sacrifice, his mom gives him up in hopes to save his life. He lives, gets adopted into the palace of Egypt, grows up, ends up breaking a few laws for all the right reasons & gets chased away from his home. He ends up living a life in the wilderness, with a tribe of sorts, for over 40 years. And then, God appears & asks him to return to his place of birth. He is asked to go back & face the most powerful Pharaoh of the largest kingdom & free the slaves that were forced to build the entire Egyptian civilization. And Moses questions EVERYTHING. “WHO?? Me?? WHY would you choose ME?! I think you’ve made a mistake!! &, God, do you REALLY know what you’re doing?” (Paraphrased) Over & over again, we see it... Moses wasn’t chosen to lead Isreal because he had talent, or ability, his great leadership skills, or his beautiful speech, or even an unshakeable faith. It wasn’t WHO Moses was. It was never about who Moses was. It was about who GOD was. Moses wasn’t a natural when it came to faith. He struggled. He questioned. And then God made him live in the wilderness for... get this, 40 YEARS, to try and soften him up some. 40 years of a humbling life as a Shepard before God thought HIS FAITH might be ready. And still, Moses needed prompting, proof, & promises. The only reason any of this worked... The only reason (spoiler alert) that Moses eventually WAS able to lead the slaves out of captivity... was because of WHO GOD IS. God convinced Moses He had his back. And that’s the only reason Moses kept stumbling forward. It’s NEVER about WHO we are. How BIG of an impact we leave has a lot more to do with our BELIEF than our abilities. I don’t know about you guys, but stories like this just make me weak in the knees. Wanting to kneel in surrender. Because I KNOW, darn well, God can use me... if He so chooses & because I don’t even have to worry about what might stand in the way. IF God wants to use me in even a minuscule fraction of the way He used Moses... He will & He can. DESPITE me, my phases of unbelief, and all of my flaws & failures... No matter where you are at on your journey, even if you’re still in the midst of the wilderness.... Remember this: There is NOTHING you can do to screw up the plan for your life. Stop worrying so much & try exercising a little bit more of that Faith. ✨ #MadeforBrave
